How Does The Optimizer Reduce The Impact Of Shadows?

"When one solar cell is shaded, the current through the entire string is reduced. This is important because every cell in the string must operate at the current set by the shaded cell. This prevents the unshaded cells from operating at maximum power.... So, yes, just a small amount of shade can have a huge impact on the power output of a solar panel."

Solar panels are typically installed in series (directly connected to each other in a chain), with the entire string running at the same current. When one panel is shaded or mismatched, it can reduce the current for the entire string - and therefore the power output.

The Voltage Optimiser mitigates mismatches by monitoring and, when necessary, adjusting current and voltage. By constantly monitoring the voltage and current passing between each panel, the optimizer learns the average rate and amount of energy the solar panels are producing. If it senses a change in voltage or current caused by a mismatch, it automatically adjusts to ensure that each panel is operating at the string's maximum power potential.
