The United States, Britain, and France are the first three countries in the world to have electricity. The world's voltage standards are generally inherited from these three countries, and generally there is a difference of about 10V, which does not affect the use.
The voltage in the United States is 120V (110V in some overseas territories such as Guam), which is much lower than that in Britain and France. This is because the United States was the first to popularize electricity, and the engines at that time could not generate such a large voltage. This standard later affected Japan (110V), and then through Japan to North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan, China. However, North Korea and South Korea were influenced by the Soviet Union and Western Europe respectively after the war, and gradually began to popularize 220V; some countries and regions around the United States that are deeply influenced by the United States, such as Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, and even the Cayman Islands, which is a British overseas territory, also adopt standards of about 110V-120V.
The early voltage in the United Kingdom was 240V, and later it was changed to 230V in order to unify with the EU standard. Most Commonwealth countries and British overseas territories have inherited this standard, such as Australia, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, etc., which are 240V, and Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, etc., which are 230V. However, there are exceptions, such as Canada, Jamaica, etc., which are 110V due to the influence of the United States; Hong Kong, China, considers the use of power from mainland China, so it adopts the 220V standard.
In addition, the Middle Eastern countries were mostly under the influence of Britain from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, so most of the voltages also adopted the British standard, which was around 230-240V.

The voltage in France is 230V. Under its influence, the voltage in almost the entire European continent is around 220V-230V. Most of their former colonies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America also adopt this standard. Most of the former Soviet countries are 220V (Russia is now gradually changing to 230V), and China, Mongolia, Vietnam, etc. are also 220V because they implement the Soviet standard.
