Voltage Optimiser is a distributed MPP solution at the panel level. Mismatched panels caused by shadows on the cells and other factors can lead to uneven losses in array power generation. Installers can solve the problem of panel mismatch through some installation techniques (such as designing around shadows, not installing at all, or installing smaller arrays), but this will result in reduced energy output.

Bypass diodes in the junction box short-circuit the entire row of cells and modules, which can theoretically reduce the impact of mismatch to some extent by bypassing the shadowed cells, thereby reducing the voltage loss through the module.
