Dry Type Transformer What is the difference between dry-type and oil-immersed transformers? Both dry-type transformers and oil-immersed transformers are power transformers, which are the iron core of the magnetic circuit and the winding of the circuit. The biggest difference is that they have different cooling media. The former uses transformer oil as the cooling and insulating medium, while the latter uses air or other gases such as SF6 as the cooling medium. The oil-circuit transformer is a body consisting of an iron core and windings placed in an oil tank filled with transformer oil.
